Portrait

Portraits of birds seem to be quite popular of late, the detailed close-ups apparently also work well on magazine covers. Above are two of my images that were recently used in publications of a national nature conservation organization (Natuurmonumenten) and the Dutch equivalent of the Society for the protection of birds (Vogelbescherming).

Detailed and interesting portraits of wild birds are only possible with cooperative subjects and long lenses. The starling is a city bird and the eider was an unusually cooperative bird in a harbor.

Starling: Nikon d800 and 70-200mm at 400mm (with a 2x converter) f5,6

Eiderduck: Nikon d700 and 200-400mm at f4

Portret
